Class 11. Repeat Tone + Line

Repeat TONE + LINE. White on black

STUDENTS: Longer poses, 20-45 minutes. ENLARGE a section of the figure that fills the page. NOTE: The tones with the strongest contrast with the paper (white on black or black on white) will appear closest to you and look like a protruding surface of the figure. Tones that fade away will appear to recede into the distance. Add some lines as and where needed. Drawing this way almost feels like modeling clay. Keep going, trial and error are great teachers: observe what creates the appearance of three-dimensional form and what doesn’t. Eventually go back and forth with bits of tone and line. Focus on FORM.
