Class 5. Outer Form as a Result of Inner Structure

STUDENTS: Start the same way as yesterday. Observe carefully and describe the actual contours that define the outer form of each section of this model. On the inner structure you’ve created (as you did yesterday), build the units or sections or shapes as you SEE them. Observe, observe, observe and refine your image. A common pitfall is drawing what you know, not what you see. (i.e. My legs are “underneath”, but where do you see the model’s now? My head is on top of my neck, yet THIS head overlaps the chest.) Beware of hard continuous lines; vary them: thick/thin, dark/light, solid/broken, etc. Vary poses also: standing, sitting, reclining; about 15-20 minutes each.

HOMEWORK:(#5) STRUCTURE + PROPORTION. CAREFULLY CONSTRUCTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT---from the inner structure to the outer form, draw the 4 positions described on the assignment sheet. Try to make the proportions believable.
